Welcome to the website for the St Albans/Nevers town twinning society – The Friends of Nevers.map nevers

Nevers is situated on the Loire, in the Bourgogne (Burgundy) region of France, 260 km SSE of Paris – approx 2 hours on the TGV.  However the locals sometimes say it is where the three rivers meet – referring to the Allier and the Nievre rivers in addition to the Loire.  It is surrounded by forests and other areas of natural beauty.  The town can trace its cultural history back to the fifteenth century when the Ducal Palace was built.

In addition to the palace it has a stunning cathedral.  It is also the resting place of Saint Bernadette.  It is famous for its pottery “La Faience”  which is a traditional source of income for the city.

St Albans has been twinned with Nevers since 1974 and members of the group organise regular exchange visits.  During these visits many people build up strong friendships with their host families.  We hold two or three social events each year to help raise funds for the organisation.
